The broken vacation
As I went through pictures of our vacation to Florida, this one stuck out to me. It was taken on the first day in Florida. Who knew it would be one of the last pictures of her with no broken bones?

Sigh.
We started our vacation near beautiful Clearwater, FL. The weather was gorgeous and the water was even more beautiful. We visited my grandma, had great food, and wonderful family time. In fact, I distinctly remember saying to Matt as we left and headed to Orlando "these past few days have been the best vacation we have ever had."
I guess they tell you what goes up must come down right?
We drove to Orlando with a spectacular plan in mind. Cayleigh's best friend Jenna was going to be in Orlando at the exact same time as we were so her mom and I concocted this plan to have them meet in Downtown Disney and see each other through a crowd.

It went perfect. It was a really beautiful moment, really it was. It was so special. We went to eat at the T-Rex place and decided that afternoon after checking in to our hotel we would go visit them and swim at their hotel pool. Little did Cayleigh know, we were planning to wake her up the next morning and surprise her with a trip to Magic Kingdom.

We checked in to our hotel and got dressed and as we headed to their hotel, noticed some big dark clouds. As the heavens opened and the rain came down, we got to their hotel and while the parents started discussing a new plan of action since it was raining, the kids decided to play. All was well in the world until we started hearing screaming. The rest is a bit of a blur, but the short of it was Cayleigh's forearm was sagging. Jenna's mom and dad were awesome, not telling me they pretty much knew her arm was broken, because I would have lost it, which wouldn't have been good for her. After getting lost and Cayleigh screaming at any touch of the brakes, we found a hospital. Though there was valet, we couldn't find anyone there so we left our car running and handed a nurse our keys. After a couple hours of waiting, we were put into a room only to be told they didn't have a pediatric orthopedist in house, but their sister hospital(a childrens hospital) had one, so we had to be transported via ambulance. She had been crying off and on the whole time, but when she heard ambulance, it freaked her out. She cried and I held her while we waited. She did get an x-ray, which showed broken bones in both bones in her forearm and one was a displaced fracture. Oh and because of the procedure, they would have to put her in the NICU and have her put under. That's when I really lost it.
I rode with Cayleigh while Matt went back to the hotel to get us clothes and cell phone chargers. Oh, did you forget we were in bathing suits? Yeah. We got to the hospital and things progressed pretty quick. The room was neat because it had a big flatscreen in every room with every Disney movie you could ever want. The doctor told us that he would try to set the displaced fracture, but there was a chance she would need surgery the next morning. Breakdown #2 for mommy. She was upset and scared and I promised her if she was a brave girl I would get her ice cream at every meal the next day. That seemed to do the trick. We held her hand as they put her to sleep and left the room. Luckily her stuffed cat "Hibby" stayed with her. I didn't even make it to the waiting room before my sobs came out. I just needed a good cry since I tried hard to hold it in for her.
3 minutes later the doctor came back and said he was done. I was still a slobbering mess.
We were able to check out around 1 am. She had her first ice cream at 1:30am.

It was such an absolutely terrifying experience. The next day, her friend and her family came and spent the evening with us leaving Disney early to hang out in our hotel room and play cards with her. It was so selfless and something I will never, ever forget.

The rest of the vacation is a bit of a blur, having to find an orthopedist to cast her in at my grandparents area, since that was our location when she needed to have a cast put on, worrying about her every move.We had a wonderful time at my grandparents despite it all and were so grateful she was able to get her cast wet so she could enjoy the pool at their house. It's been a long summer, but I'm happy to report her cast is officially off as of 8/13!
Next up, picture highlights of the trip! We tried hard to make sure it was still a special trip!
