Campout BBQ Party

Image
We had a 6th birthday party for Cayleigh in the beginning of August. It was a few weeks before her birthday, but all of her friends were able to make it so we figured that was the most important part....and aside from weather that was not our friend, I'd say it was a success! The theme was a campout BBQ and we had smoked chicken and hot dogs, watermelon, deviled eggs, and potato salad. We planned to do s'mores, but thanks to my ex BFF the weather, it didn't work out. The cupcakes in place of a cake Some of the decorations Make Cayleigh a tshirt! Girl Scout Friends Kaya and Jennifer :) Marshmallow toss... Cookie head... Who can get all the post it's on their partner? Junk in the trunk... Flashlight decorating... Dessert! The end product of the t-shirt-Cayleigh loved it!

The broken vacation

Image
As I went through pictures of our vacation to Florida, this one stuck out to me. It was taken on the first day in Florida. Who knew it would be one of the last pictures of her with no broken bones? Sigh. We started our vacation near beautiful Clearwater, FL. The weather was gorgeous and the water was even more beautiful. We visited my grandma, had great food, and wonderful family time. In fact, I distinctly remember saying to Matt as we left and headed to Orlando "these past few days have been the best vacation we have ever had."  I guess they tell you what goes up must come down right? We drove to Orlando with a spectacular plan in mind. Cayleigh's best friend Jenna was going to be in Orlando at the exact same time as we were so her mom and I concocted this plan to have them meet in Downtown Disney and see each other through a crowd. It went perfect. It was a really beautiful moment, really it was. It was so special. We went to eat at the T-Rex place and ...

Meet the newest members of the family!

;) Nope, not pregnant, they are crustaceans! When we went on vacation, we saw tons of little hermit crabs on the beach and in stores. Cayleigh and I thought they were neat and had to have them, Matt not so much. Some days I suppose I don't give him enough credit for being the sensible one. I argued that this was just something you do as a kid and you need this life experience, and we were robbing her of this childhood memory, and she may in fact be scarred for life. Yes, yes, I know I should be up for an Emmy for most dramatic. So, on the last day of vacation we went to one of those little shops where everything is worth a dollar but they charge $30 and got 2 hermit crabs. On our way home, she decided there names would be Jason Aldean and Daphne. Yes, after the country singer and girl in scooby doo. And we all lived happily ever after?? Well, yes until Daphne kicked the bucket 2 days later. Matt and I debated on how to tell her. What do any good parents do when their 4 year old...

Meet the bane of my existence...

Image
Let me start by saying I know I have an unhealthy fear of bugs. Admitting is the first step to recovery, right? I know I owe you a camping trip post, but I just had to do this post while it was still fresh. I have been terrified of bugs since I was a kid. Ask my mom, I was that kid running frantically from a bee and making a scene. I was that kid who once hairsprayed a spider to my sheets on my bed and had to throw them out. Get the point? Just doing a photobucket search for 'stinkbug' made my skin crawl. Onto my story. I was driving home yesterday and on the phone with Matt, rambling about something when I looked in my rear view mirror and spotted a *gasp* stinkbug on it. Yes, that's right, less than a foot from my eyeballs. I shrieked and started ranting to Matt. "What am I going to do??? I can't drive like this!!!!" I'll spare you Matt's reaction, but it had something to do with driving to the hospital and checking myself in. He suggests I open the ...

Coffee beans and bum knees...

Image
So I figure I'll just clump all of the embarassment for the week into one post. We'll start with Tuesday when I was walking and slipped on spilled water by a water fountain in my building at work. I did as much of a split as my legs would allow and one knee hit the ground really hard. My knee and inner leg is sore, but my pride hurts alot worse. sigh. So while I'm still sore and was told to rest it, I have a 2.5 year old and needed groceries. I ventured to walmart. Whenever we go to the grocery store, I try to make it a learning experience. I quiz her on which veggie is which, count the oranges in the bag, you get the picture. She was really excited when we got to the coffee bean section, because on occasion my mom lets her push the button to grind the beans at her house. We are plain, already ground maxwell house, so for her it's a treat. I took a couple bean from the self serve section and she smelled them and asked to keep one. We made it to the next aisle and I got ...

Without further adieu...

So the story goes......We went to the mall to pick up a couple things for our Florida trip. We always brings snacks for Cayleigh because she is not a stroller rider. Today I had packed her Blueberries and milk. Odd concoction, but she's a fan. We put her in her loud, noisy green stroller that sounds like it's in desperate need of some WD -40. Ok , ok the story. We went in Old Navy and I was so thankful to have a unusually quiet child so I could shop! Matt went to the men's section, while I hit up the ladies department . I stopped and smiled a a really adorable and way cute pregnant girl. I turned and started looking at a cute tank top and heard this "ah-oh- ohhhhhh " kind of wail. I immediately thought the pregnant lady must have had her water break so I turned around with my loud stroller, " errrrrr - aahhh " is the sound. I pushed it over to see and I look over and an old lady is laying on the ground. I rushed over to help her out(she had a few peop...
