Decisions, decisions....

Let's see...When I last posted about gymnastics, things were going great.

Here she is last week with the teacher....

Right before she refused to do anything except the trampoline.

I tried to have a positive attitude going in to today's class, I really did. I brought Matt with me as back-up to watch her from afar.

Today's class was no better. I don't just think it was Cayleigh. I became increasingly annoyed with the class. Below is their description of the class.

"Ages 1-3 years, share quality time with your child as they enjoy a colorful environment of fun and fitness. you help them as they learn fundamental motor skills through games and music. "

I think that lumping 1-3 year olds is not a good idea unless the teacher is willing and capable of working on different levels. This was not the case of our teacher. She did decent with the 3 year olds, but for the younger ones she just seemed hassled by their capabilities. She would constatly praise the older ones and always let them go first, when the shorter attention span young ones were always last. There was never music, unless her singing "ring around the rosie" counts. She gave 5 step instructions to an 18 month old and Cayleigh....?? She started late every week, with you having to make your presence known and then ends early each week. She spent 10 minutes on stretching......WHAT 2 YEAR OLD SITS THAT LONG AND STRETCHES WHEN THERE ARE TRAMPOLINES AND FOAM PITS?!?! She didn't even let them play on either this week!

Ok, the caps is a bit much, but you get the point. We really had little expectations of this class, but the basics are 45 minutes of class(not 30), catering to all of the kids needs, and making it fun for Cayleigh. With none of that happening....

We decided after week 3 to end the session.

I hope this post doesn't make me seem like a mom who expected her 2 year old to be able to do a cartwheel at the end of the class. It was just at the end of the class last week and this week it was extremely evident that neither of us enjoyed it.

Her only video of gymnastics, and of course she looks to be having a blast but she was screaming on the floor before this clip, and running away from me after...

I think we'll wait a couple months, and try music or something else that she might enjoy.

I think you did the right thing. I does not sound like they had the kids grouped right...1 and 3 yr olds should not be grouped together in a class like that. We did gymboree for a while with Hailey and she loved that.

You definitely have the right to pull Cayleigh out of class if it wasn't going well.. She was really cute in that video though!! haha Maybe get her on a sports team like soccer ;) She could be really good with 4 aunts that play it!
