FROSTBURG — Elmer Johnson, 94, of Frostburg, passed peacefully into heaven to be with Jesus, Evelyn, his loving wife, and his first born son, Kenneth, on Sunday, Oct. 25, 2009.
Born in Lonaconing, Aug. 1, 1915, he was the son of the late John Johnson and Ida Mae (Ternent) Johnson.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Marie (Beeman) Johnson, whom he wed on Oct. 3, 1936, and enjoyed 70 loving years of marriage until her passing on June 9, 2007; one son, Kenneth Johnson; one granddaughter, Rebecca Fair; three sisters, Mary Crawford, Edna Russell and Alice Nightengale; and three brothers, Onis Johnson, Arthur Johnson and John Johnson.
He was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church, Midland. He was veteran of the U.S. Army serving as a sergeant in the 175th infantry of World War II. He was also a member of John Devlin Post 169 American Legion, Midland, and the Cumberland Area Teamsters for 23 years. He retired from Charlton Brothers as a truck driver. He will be sadly missed by all his family and all he ever met.
Surviving are his children, Rodney Johnson and wife Norma, of South Port, N.C., Wayne Johnson and wife Louise, of Frostburg, Dennis Johnson and wife Ruth, of Eckhart, and Linda Miller and husband Brian, of LaVale; one daughter-in-law, Teresa, of Emmitsburg; one brother, Curtis Johnson and wife Louise, of Gilmore; one sister, Pearl Alexander, of Devlin Manor; 21 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren; other loving family members are Janet, Deanie, Debbie, and Kenny; and several nieces and nephews

Family and friends will be received at the Eichhorn-McKenzie Funeral Home P.A., Midland, on Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2009, from 6 to 9 p.m.
A funeral service will be conducted in the funeral home on Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2009, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Harry L. Burchell and the Rev. Karen Tamorria officiating. Friends will be received on hour prior to the service.
Interment will be held at Laurel Hill Cemetery, Moscow Mills.
Military rites will be accorded by Farrady Post 24, American Legion, Frostburg.
